Beer, Lagers

Cave Creek Chili BeerBilled as “The Most Unusual Beer in the World”, the brainchild of Crazy Ed Chilleen, Cave Creek Chili Beer doesn’t disappoint when it comes to being “unusual”. If you enjoy drinking molten magma you’ll probably find it quite refreshing. If not, I’d suggest you drink something else. How Chili Beer came to be is story that’s worth a read.

Handcrafted in Tecate, Mexico, a hot Serrano chili pepper is hand placed in every bottle and then filled with a Mexican Lager. Warning… don’t eat the pepper! Having said that, there will be those of you who are going to eat the pepper anyway. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Just the same, I tend to keep a few bottles of Chili Beer on hand. No, it’s not to give to a friend and say… “Here, you gotta try this…” and then point and laugh hysterically at the expression on their face after they take a big swig. I’m not saying I haven’t done that or that I’m not tempted to do that on occasion, it’s not why I keep it around. I cook with it.

During the Winter months I make big pots of chili. I never make it without adding beer. Cave Creek Chili Beer adds a really nice “punch” to a big pot of chili. Just don’t go overboard. Add some, simmer a bit, then taste. You can always add more if you like.

During the Summer months, I’m a grilling fool. One of my favorites is good old fashioned beer brats. Great anytime but especially for parties. I’m not a boiler. That’s to say, I don’t boil the brats in beer before I grill them. I simply soak them for an hour or two and then straight to the grill. The Chili Beer gives them a really nice flavor and a bit of an added kick. For those of you who prefer boiling the brats then grilling, keep in mind, that if you use Cave Creek Chili Beer, the longer you boil the brats the more “heat” they’ll impart.
